Soil Health and Sustainability

Soil Health and Sustainability (SHS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access online journal. Its core aim is to enable the scientific community to recognize soil health as a foundational, overarching principle that contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—rather than merely treating it as one or several isolated attributes to be measured. It seeks to elevate soil health as a key driver of sustainability across environmental, agricultural, and ecological contexts.

The journal focuses on publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed content covering topics including, but not limited to:

Soil fundamental properties and processes: Soil quality, soil moisture dynamics, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility
Soil biotic interactions: Soil microbiology (microbial communities, their functions, and impacts on soil health)
Ecosystem services linked to soil: Contributions of soil health to carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, water regulation, and biodiversity conservation
Agricultural and rangeland sustainability: Rangeland management issues, and strategies to enhance agricultural productivity while preserving soil health
Water-soil interactions: Water management, water reuse, water quality, water scarcity, and the effects of using brackish water or produced water on soil health and agricultural sustainability
